Scott Wells
Scott Wells was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL draft, with the 251st pick overall. Waived from the Packers’ roster his rookie year, Wells worked his way back on and into the starting lineup, becoming the team’s most consistent offensive lineman in 2006. He played 1115 of the team’s 1117 offensive snaps, missing only two plays against the Detroit Lions when he lost his shoe. Wells is the anchor of a young offensive line, and his strong work ethic and drive have received praise from coaches and admiration from his fellow players. In his first two seasons as at Lambeau, Wells saw action at center in only four games, spending most of his time playing guard. With the departure of Mike Flanagan in the 2006 offseason, however, he was moved to the center position, where he quickly established himself as a formidable blocker. Wells has received the attention of football writers as one of most promising young linemen in the NFL. Scott Wells attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a four-year starter at UT, and ended his career third on the all-time list of offensive linemen for consecutive starts, closing out his college career with 49 straight starts. He was an All-SEC honoree his senior year, and a team captain. While at UT, Wells played alongside future Packers teammates David Martin and Chad Clifton. He graduated from Tennessee with a double major in history and sociology. Born in West, Texas, Scott Wells was a high school standout in football, track, and wrestling at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee. He was named the top heavyweight wrestler in the nation his senior year of high school. In his free time, Wells enjoys fishing and target shooting, and he volunteers his time as well. He has taught youth wrestling clinics in his hometown, participated in the Edgar Bennett Bowl-A-Thon, and done a number of events benefiting cancer research. Wells would like to pursue a career in education after his football career. Scott Wells took a blow to the eye that broke the socket against the Bears on October 7th. Having come off of a season where he started all 16 games, his absence was a concern. Following the eye injury, an infection set in. After his return on November 4th, against the KC in the second quarter he played the rest of the season. Having been part of the offensive line that put Ryan Grant in the spotlight, and at the same time keeping Farve protected, the Packers were happy to have Wells back in action. As a team player, Wells stats don’t stand out, but rather blend into the picture along with the rest of a solid offensive line that took the Packers to the NFC championship game. In 2008, we saw Wells start 13 games of the season after being inactive the first two due to injury. At the Indianapolis game, he started and was a member of the line that did not allow for the sack of Ryan Grant, allowing him to rush 105 yards. Throughout the season he continued to aid Grant, such as during the Chicago game when he helped pave the way for Grant’s season high 145 yard rush. Though his game play with limited this past season, fans are excited to see him come back in 2009 strong and ready to get back onto the field. © 2010 GreenBayPackersTicket.net Terms of Service |
