Mason Crosby
was the Green Bay Packers’ sixth round draft selection in the 2007 draft, taken with the 193rd pick overall. Crosby attended Georgetown High School in Mexia, Texas before playing at the University of Colorado. The 22-year old Crosby was a highly touted kicking prospect coming into the draft, noted for his leg strength. During his time at Colorado, he distinguished himself as one of the top kickers in the nation. His senior year, he was unanimously named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press, The Sporting News, and the Football Writers Association of America. ESPN’s draft expert Mel Kiper placed Crosby as one of the top five kickers in the nation before the 2007 draft. Mason Crosby holds the record for the longest field goal kicked in NCAA history without a tee, booting a 58-yarder against Miami in 2005. He also set a school record by kicking a 60-yarder against Iowa State in 2004. He is the all-time leading scorer at the University of Colorado with 275 career points, and was named Big 12 Player of the Week 8 times his senior year. Crosby is expected to pose a strong challenge to Green Bay Packers veteran kicker Dave Rayner. The two will compete throughout training camp for kicking duties on the roster. While Lambeau Field lacks the high altitude and thin air that Crosby was accustomed to kicking in at the University of Colorado, he is likely to make a name for himself this summer. Mason Crosby, a little known sixth round pick from Colorado made a splash in the first game of the regular season. Crosby kicked the winning field goal with two seconds left on the clock. He made 31 of the 39 field goal attempts put upon his shoulders. In November, he was named NFC player of the month. He was ranked as the NFL scoring leader with 141 points to his credit. The Sixth-round pick captured the league scoring title with 141 points, placing him third behind Paul Hornung in points scored for a single season. During the 2008 season, Crosby played in all games and tied for seventh in the NFL for his 127 points for kicking. This was the highest single season point total in team history without a touchdown. At the Minnesota game, he helped by connecting on a 42-yard field goal plus posted two touchbacks during kickoffs. He continued to play strong throughout the rest of the season, connecting field goals at most games and great kicks. His great accomplishments for the season have not gone unnoted and fans look forward to seeing Crosby during the 2009 season. © 2010 GreenBayPackersTicket.net Terms of Service |
