More Info
Jason Spitz was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft, with the 75th pick overall. Spitz started 13 games at guard his rookie season, first filling in at left guard and eventually moving to right guard when fellow rookie Daryn Colledge joined the starting unit. Spitz adapted well to the zone-blocking scheme and impressed coaches with his ability to quickly pick up the technical nuance demanded by the position.

Jason Spitz attended Louisville University, where he started 38 consecutive games and was awarded All-Conference honors his final three seasons. He led an offensive line that was part of a high power offense, ranking ninth in the nation his senior year.

A marketing major at Louisville, Spitz also intends to pursue advanced degrees in finance and marketing. He has spent his free time volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club in Louisville. Spitz was born in Boardman, Ohio.

Jason Spitz is one player that can line up at various positions and still perform at a high level. For 2007, Spitz lined up at right guard, center, and left guard. Although his strongest efforts were at right guard, Spitz replaced the injured Junius Coston, and center Scott Wells at various times during the regular season.

Jason started at center for the injured Wells on October 7th against Chicago. A recurring calf injury took Jason out of the line up at various times during the regular season.

One of his best plays came against Minnesota on Nov. 11th when he blocked two Vikings enabling Grant a run to daylight, 30 yards into the endzone. Spitz was on the line for various games that proved the Packers were a serious run threat. As long as the nagging calf injury stays away, Jason Spitz could have another solid season. His versatility will help open running lanes in 2008.

For the first time in his career, Spitz started all 16 games of the 2008 season. His versatility served him well as he was one of the only two players to start in three different spots on the offensive line. At the Chicago game, he was a member of the line that allowed no sacks of Aaron Rodgers and aided in the team’s 200 rushing yards. Spitz is a key offensive player and should be an interesting player to watch progress in the 2009 season.
