James Jones played for San Jose State, and in his senior year, he caught 12 touchdown passes. He amassed just shy of 1500 yards in total.

He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2007 in the third round. He had nine starts in his rookie year, and played in all 16 games. With Greg Jennings going out with a hamstring injury, Jones was made the number three receiver for a time. He ended his first season having the fourth most yards at his position.

In 2008, James Jones played in ten games as a Green Bay Packers wide receiver. His production dropped off a bit, but he did have one 100 yard receiving game. His knee injury put him on the inactive list for six games.
