More Info
Aaron Rouse was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 3rd round of the 2007 NFL draft, with the 89th pick overall. He is expected to challenge veterans Marquand Manuel and Marviel Underwood for the starting job at strong safety. Standing 6 feet 4 inches and weighing over 220 pounds, Rouse is a big presence in the Packers’ defensive backfield who gained a reputation in college for being a physical player and big hitter.

Rouse attended college at Virginia Tech University, where he played alongside fellow Packer receiver David Clowney. A highly touted prospect going into his senior year of college, Rouse’s on-field production dropped somewhat his final year, causing his draft status to drop as well. After a redshirt freshman year, Rouse saw action in his freshman and sophomore years, starting a handful of games before securing the starting position at strong safety his junior year. His size and speed (he runs a 4.5 forty), coupled with his tackling and hitting ability, distinguished him as one of the top safeties in the nation.

Rouse hails from Virginia Beach, Virignia, where he attended First Colonial High School, blocking a record eight kicks in his high school football career. While at Virginia Tech, Rouse majored in sociology.

Aaron Rouse started during the 4th game of the 2007 season as strong safety. During the season, over 40 passes went his way, with 21 being completions. Rouse had two interceptions for the season. He led the team in tackles against Detroit. For the season, he had 33 tackles. Aaron Rouse shifted around from special teams play, to replacement safety for Atari Bigby and Nick Collins.

In 2008, Rouse became more present on the field, playing in 14 games, six of which he started. He showed his true colors when he filled in for injured Bigby during the Detroit game in September though he himself was injured as well and even made one tackle. He played mostly as a strong safety to fill in for Bigby and posted a career-high 13 tackles in one game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Rouse was released by the Green Bay Packers in September of 2009.
