The Milwaukee Bucks came to be in the late 1960's. A group of investors were awarded a franchise, and they promptly headed to the basement of the standings. They won just over two dozen games that year.
Grabbing the first round draft pick, Milwaukee chose Lew Alcindor from UCLA. The results from this first round pick were immediate, and stood as a record for most improved team for a decade. The Milwaukee Bucks made the playoffs that year, but lost to the Knicks in the conference finals.
Oscar Robertson was the key to the Milwaukee Bucks winning the championship the next season. The Bucks kept on winning into the 1975 season. Since then, Milwaukee has made the playoffs nine more times, but never got back to their early Championship form.
The Bucks once again became a powerhouse team under the coaching of George Karl. He helped to bring in Tim Thomas, and Sam Cassell. Karl encouraged the Bucks ownership to bring Anthony Mason into the fold. Mason proved to be a bad acquisition, as the team went into a tailspin in the last half of the 2001-2002 season. In 2002, Milwaukee made the playoffs, but was defeated in the first round.
Over the years, Milwaukee has had opportunities to draft great young talent. Yi Jianlian was reluctant to play in a small market such as Milwaukee. None the less, he signed a contract to play for the Bucks. Jianlian left the team as soon as he was able. Milwaukee traded Yi for Richard Jefferson.
The injury bug struck the Milwaukee Bucks in 2008. Michael Redd sat out the last half of the season. Sadly, the Bucks seemed to be on the verge of making a playoff spot prior to the injury. A healthy Bucks squad for 2009 brings high hopes to the city of Milwaukee.
