Miller Park opened in April of 2001. The Milwaukee Brewers would no longer experience rain delays, snow days in April, or the early season chilly evenings that plagued County Stadium. Miller Park has a roof shaped like a fan, and three of the five sections retract.
The supporting beams of the roof are on the exterior, and the highest point in Miller Park is just over 300 feet. During the 2008 playoffs, Jayson Werth hit the Miller Park roof with a pop up ball that was caught by Craig Councell. There have been home run balls that have made it through the open areas of the center field exterior. Otherwise, the ballpark is made up of bricks and steel.
County Stadium was a distant memory after the first pitch at Miller Park. The old stadium was torn down well before Miller Park opened in 2001. Fans will find a marker in the west parking lot. The marker notes where home base was located at County Stadium.
The new ballpark is a bit smaller than the old, the secret stadium sauce is still available, and Bernie Brewer slides whenever the home team hits a home run at Miller Park. There is a children's play area, restaurants, tables just over the fence in right field, and great handicap access along top rows of the field level.
Mark Attanasio became the majority owner of the Brewers in 2004. His fresh outlook helped bring the fans to Miller Park in huge numbers, and in 2008 Milwaukee made the playoffs for the first time in decades. The Brewers lost in the first round, but fans have a new love of the game in Milwaukee.
